Cyberjaya, 1 March 2023 – Dagang NeXchange Berhad (“DNeX”) has launched Sustainability@DNeX, an initiative to improve its Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) stewardship in creating long-term value for its stakeholders.

Sustainability@DNeX will drive the Group’s Sustainability Framework with a focus towards sustainable development by balancing profitable growth with environmental and social responsibilities while institutionalising good governance.

The Group’s Sustainability Framework outlines the Group’s material Sustainability issues against long-term ambitions across four themes – stewarding a sustainable environment, empowering the people, creating value for customers and community, and embracing good governance for businesses resilience.

According to Tan Sri Syed Zainal Abidin Syed Mohamed Tahir, Executive Chairman of DNeX, it is imperative for the Group to inculcate a Sustainability mindset amongst its workforce, ensuring all employees are familiar with the importance of the company’s Sustainability journey.

“This will help to promote cohesiveness between subsidiaries and departments while enhancing the Group’s ESG performance to achieve our Sustainability targets and commitments” he said.

He said DNeX’s global presence endowed the Group with a responsibility to operate in ways that generate long-term value for people, communities and natural environments.

“Our presence has expanded beyond Malaysia, following the acquisition of SilTerra Malaysia Sdn Bhd – a global player in the semiconductor industry and Ping Petroleum Limited – an upstream oil and gas (“O&G”) operator. This means we are now a truly global organisation with a substantial presence in resource industries. This reinforces our responsibility to act in ways that safeguard natural environments and local communities across our countries of operations,” he added.

The core principles of DNeX’s Sustainability Framework are aligned with the Group’s vision, mission and core values, which are aimed at complementing its business strategies and ensuring the company grows without ignoring the environment and the vicinity society, as well as maintaining good corporate governance.

The Sustainability Framework outlines a three-year roadmap across the ESG spheres comprising a series of Sustainability communications and engagement sessions throughout the Group. In addition, themes, targets, commitments and initiatives outlined in the Framework are designed to be aligned with the various requirements published by investors and regulators.

In recent years, the narrative of a responsible corporate citizen has expanded towards building resilient businesses, prioritising issues such as climate risks, access to adequate healthcare, and education. Stakeholders such as investors and customers are also expecting companies to improve their ESG responses, amplifying corporations’ need to direct their attention towards corporate sustainability.

Recently, DNeX bagged the Silver Award for the Most Improved Performance Over 3 Years – RM800 million to RM5billion Market Capitalisation category at The Edge ESG Awards 2022. The awards were aimed to honour public-listed companies (“PLCs”) and asset management firms that are ESG leaders in Malaysia and was organised in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia Bhd and FTSE Russell.
