Welcome to the second issue of DagangNetPOST for the year.


While my team and I are preparing this issue, the whole country is under the Movement Control Order ("MCO") as a means to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Throughout the duration of MCO, while our office premises are closed, our eServices for the National Single Window ("NSW") for Trade Facilitation continue to operate as usual during as part of Essential Services.

Global economies are faced with an unprecedented situation with headwinds from multiple fronts and businesses in Malaysia are not sparred. Global leaders all around the world are working relentlessly and have taken various measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic such as implementing movement control order and closing its borders. Such developments have limited physical movement and impacted a lot of business and trade activities globally. Governments and corporate leaders are changing how they work amid such unprecedented situation. In the age of Covid-19, businesses and organisations are forced to visit a digital transformation faster, failing which can heighten the risk of being disrupted and replaced.

In trade for example, digitalised logistics and trade facilitation allow businesses to respond swiftly and mitigate limitations arising from increased mobility restrictions and social distancing. We believe smart logistics and trade facilitation ecosystem are much needed to ensure seamless trade, especially when the e-commerce industries are growing rapidly in the current situation.

SealNet, our web-based one-stop system is designed to ease cargo and trade management processes, connecting exporters and importers with all relevant parties, such as freight forwarders and Customs, and enabling the exchange of trade data digitally.

In another example, within the country's trade processes, with Dagang Net's Online Payment, users can prepare, submit and settle payments with online convenience for Customs duties and Importation Goods and Service Tax ("GST") to Royal Malaysian Customs Department, permit fees to Permit Issuing Agencies and bill payments to Dagang Net. As the eService continues to operate beyond banking hours, payment processes can happen anytime, anywhere.

Another service relevant to digitalisation is Dagang Net eScroll, which is an innovative blockchain-powered web application for employers, graduates, universities and training providers to authenticate academic and training certificates. It has a unique signature and time-stamped certificate that can eliminate forgery unlike traditional paper-based documents.

Each certificate is tagged with a QR code linked to a blockchain platform to ensure secure, immutable and incorruptible environment. Issuing institutions keep a register of certificates on the blockchain represented by the QR code. Authentication of certificates is done by simply scanning the QR code. The verification process is made simple, transparent and can be done remotely, hence suitable in a limited mobility scenario.

For Dagang Net, we will continue to step up efforts to help customers embrace digitalisation and we are committed to being part of customers' journey in digitalisation.
