Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd, Malaysia 's largest leading e-commerce service provider, said its web-based permit application system, ePermit, would go online at all 23 permit issuing agencies (PIAs) by Sept 1 this year.
The implementation of the ePermit system would eliminate the need for paper based trade documents and link all 23 PIAs, Royal Malaysian Customs, importer, exporters, and forwarding agents with the use of the Internet, it said.
The system would reduce the manual permit application time from three days to one, as there would no longer be a need to fill up forms with the same information repetitively, Dagang Net Technologies said in a statement on March 24.
The Malaysia Cocoa Board (MCB) was the first agency under the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities to go live on March 24 with the ePermit for the export of dried cocoa beans.
Malaysia imported 268,615 tonnes of dried cocoa beans valued at RM1.30 billion for the 11 months last year up from the 244,216 tonnes worth RM1.29 billion in 2004.
“This involves a high volume of manual transactions and permit applications," the secretary general of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Dr Michael Dosim Lunjew said.
“Our aim is to consolidate and centralise all permit processing activities into one single entry point or gateway via ePermit. We believe the integration of our ePermit system into one national programme can facilitate greater collaboration among all permit issuing agencies,” said Dagang Net's chief executive officer, Saifol Bahri Shamlan.
The launch of the ePermit was in line with the 9th Malaysia Plan to transform the use of high technology for the plantation sector together with agriculture and agro-based industries.
