Dagang Net Expects To Rake In RM58 Mln Revenue This Year

Published by Bernama (Business)

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Time Engineering Bhd, hopes to rake in RM58 million in revenue this year compared with RM50 million previously from its core business, the Sistem Maklumat Kastam Dagang Net.

Its chief executive officer Saifol Bahri Shamlan said the forecast revenue would be driven by the rollout of its new value-added services like e-permit application, e-manifest and K3 form.

He said the e-permit enables importers, exporters and appointed forwarding agents to apply permits without having to go to the required permit issuing agency and it shortens the approval time.

The company targets 24 permit issuing agency, which are government agencies, to come on board by the fourth quarter of this year, he told reporters after the United Nation/Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business' (UN/CEFACT) workshop on "UNeDocs".

UN/CEFACT is a UN body that develops the global standards for digital trade documents and data exchange, while UNeDocs is an international standard to facilitate paperless trade.

Saifol Bahri said with the implementation of e-permit, customers would only have to apply through the web and use the same information to apply for another permit from other government agencies.

Currently, only the Federal Agriculture and Marketing Agency (Fama) and Pesticide Control Board for imports are using the Dagang Net platform for e-permit.

Dagang Net is an e-commerce service provider that operates the national electronic trade facilitation service, SMK Dagang Net, a system that enables trade and logistic industry to have paperless transactions with the Custom Department.

He said the e-manifest and K3 forms, currently under a pilot project, are expected to be implemented soon.

E-manifest, is a complete list and description of goods that have been loaded into a ship and are on board, while K3 is a form to facilitate transfer trade between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia and vice versa.

On the UNeDocs implementation, Saifol Bahri said it is expected to be implemented in the country by 2007.

"Currently, we are in the initial stages and having discussions with service providers in the United Kingdom and Germany ," he said.

With the implementation of the UNeDocs, it is expected to empower Malaysian exporters to effectively participate in global trade, he added.
