E-marine cargo insurance solution available

Published by The Star (Maritime)

AT the click of a mouse, an electronic marine cargo insurance solution is now available for logistics industry players.

Tahan Insurance Malaysia general insurance chief operating officer Chong Wai Hong said the e-Cargo Insurance was among others, aimed at increasing efficiency and effectiveness of the processing cycle and improve data analysis and decision-making.

He also said that the solution was convenient, fast and economical and provided connectivity to Tahan's back end system for fast processing of customers' requests.

The solution can be utilised for insurance application, quotation, policy or certificate of insurance endorsement issuance and for premium payment.

The e-Cargo Insurance was among others, aimed at increasing efficiency and effectiveness of the processing cycle and improve data analysis and decisionmaking, says Chong Wai Hong.

A joint partnership with DagangNet Technologies Sdn Bhd, the solution is targeted towards importers, exporters, manufacturers, transportation and logistics providers, agents, insurance brokers and financial institutions.

Utilising single connectivity and providing multiple access to various relevant agencies, the portal showcases Internet based real time mechanisms with the highest degree of security and reliability.

The portal is now ready for use at Phase one, whereby individual shipment for marine cargo application, quotation, marine cargo schedule and policy and issuance of endorsements can be carried out.

Phase two of the portal, comprises marine open cover (MOC) policy and certificates application, would be available for use by end of the year.

This would be followed by online payment services.

Where the conventional way of obtaining cover could take more than two months, this portal enables one to shorten the time to half a day.

DagangNet chief executive officer Saifol Bahri Mohd Shamlan said the e-Cargo Insurance was part of DagangNet's Internet web portal - My Ports - which pulls together all the essential services to enhance the performance of trade facilitation electronically.

“We believe e-Cargo Insurance is a vital ingredient in satisfying the increasing demands of the highly competitive trade and logistics industry.

“Our strategic alliance with Than Insurance cements our mutual trust and joint commitment in technological and service excellence,'' he said.
