e-Permit To Go Online By Year End - Muhyiddin

Published by Bernama (Business)

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry expects its web-based permit application processing system, ePermit, to go online at all its agencies by the end of this year.

Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said that currently the system had been implemented at the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) and the Pesticides Control Board.

"We plan to replicate similar efforts at the Department of Veterinary Services, Department of Plant Control and Quarantine and Department of Fisheries," he said at the launch of ePermit here Thursday.

He was represented at the ceremony by the ministry's secretary general Tan Sri Abi Musa Asa'ari Mohamed Nor.

ePermit, a system developed by Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd, enables importers, exporters and forwarding agents to apply for import and export permits from government agencies and obtain approval via the Internet.

Approved permits will be transmitted to the Custom's Information System electronically for validation and cross-reference purposes against Customs declaration.

Muhyiddin said the ultimate aim of the system was to centralise all permit activities into one single gateway via ePermit to facilitate Customs clearance.

"We feel that we will eventually need a centralised system that can integrate and streamline all permit operations at our ministry to create better accessibility for both the public and private sectors," he said.
