PUTRAJAYA, Aug 10 (Bernama) -- Royal Malaysian Customs expects to receive RM12 billion annually on its customs duty payments following the introduction of electronic funds transfer via internet access, called DutyNet.
The new electronic funds transfer will make it easy for forwarding agents to make any payment to the Customs.
DutyNet is linked to Dagang Net's e-declare portal, a system connected to Customs' database and Bumiputra-Commerce Bank's (BCB) internet business banking portal, BizChannel.
Customs director-general, Tan Sri Abdul Halil Abdul Mutalib said DutyNet system would help expedite the Customs clearance and duty payments, which could easily be done over the internet.
He said Dagang Net had previously developed electronic funds transfer but the transactions were only possible during banking hours -- only RM1.8 billion annual duty payments were made then.
DutyNet on the other hand, is different as it operates 24 hours a day for seven days a week and clients can access the system virtually from anywhere and at anytime," he told reporters after officiating the launching of the DutyNet system, here, Wednesday.
Halil said through the DutyNet system, the forwarding agents could submit their goods declaration via Dagang Net and this would be transmitted to Custom's online system for approval.
In explaining the new mode of fund transfer, he said forwarding agents could make the payment via DutyNet after they received the approval with BCB's BizChannel.
With the system having the latest technology, he said such payment transactions would have in place the clients' confidentiality.
To subscribe to DutyNet, customers should register with Dagang Net's e-declare system and BCB's BizChannel internet portal.
