Dagang Net to Sign Pact With Foreign Firms

DAGANG Net Technologies Sdn Bhd expects to sign alliance agreements with several companies in Europe and East Asia to facilitate the establishment of an inter-VAN (value-added network) connectivity exchange to process trade documentation between Malaysia and its trading partners.

"We have cross-border alliances with Korea Trade Network (South Korea), PT EDI Indonesia and CrimsonLogic (Singapore)... we are working on securing more such alliances soon," Dagang Net's chief executive officer Saifol Shamlan told Mail Money.

The inter-VAN connectivity between the parties facilitates the exchange of import and export documentation between each member country, resulting in a speedy, efficient and accurate exchange of Customs declaration information.

On how the inter-VAN connectivity will effect businesses in member countries, Saifol said Customs administrations will benefit from speedy and efficient exchange of Customs declaration information for better administrative and effective control purposes.

Global shippers like importers and exporters, logistics service providers like forwarding agents and their overseas trading partners also stand to benefit in terms of improved turn-around time for cargo shipments.

The inter-VAN connectivity will also result in forwarding agents being able to re-use data originating from the source country, thus reducing or eliminating the need to duplicate data entry processes. They can also check the status of their consignment through a common tracking window.

"South Korea, Indonesia and Singapore already have Customs clearance VAN's, but there are also companies from other developing countries that currently do not have either a Customs back-end system or a VAN," Saifol said.

In such instances, Dagang Net is working with strategic partners to propose the setting up of such systems.
