DAGANG Net Technologies Sdn Bhd’s latest information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure is aimed at handling 30 times the load of electronic Customs document transfers among members of the SMK-Dagang.Net trading community.
Dagang Net’s chief executive officer Saifol Bahri Mohd Shamlan told Computimes that the capability is necessary as the SMK-Dagang.Net trading community has been growing to include more sea and inland ports.
He said over the last six months, the volume of e-Customs document transfer rose by 20 per cent, bouyed by the country’s rising trade volumes.
Last year, RM1.8 billion worth of electronic Custom duty payments and 40 million e- -Customs document transfers were conducted among members of the SMK-Dagang.Net trading community of manufacturers, forwarders, shipping agents, terminal and port operators, banks, port authorities and Customs houses.
Dagang Net recently appointed Time Quantum Technology Sdn Bhd to provide a nationwide network via a dedicated data centre facility owned and managed by Time Quantum. The agreement commits both companies to collaborate to strengthen the Dagang Net portion of the existing SMK-Dagang.Net network with new hardware, software and network equipment.
Saifol Bahri said the electronic cargo clearing and duty payment systems linked to the SMK or Sistem Maklumat Kastam will be revamped over the next three years with upgrades worth RM20 million. The first stage of the revamp – which is worth over RM11 million – will involve new hardware and network infrastructure.
Under the upgrade plan, the company will improve the automation of customs import-export documentation procedures as well as continue to introduce more value-added services.
“The explosive growth in international trade has forced us to retool and upgrade our technology every three years or so, so that we can deploy the latest state-of-the-art technology across our entire operations,” Saifol Bahri said.
Dagang Net has qualified Hewlett-Packard for its core processing systems while the information storage and management will be powered by Oracle’s database. It will also leverage Cisco’s expertise in networking as well as Axway’s messaging and electronic document exchange suites.
The company is working with the Royal Malaysian Customs on the final leg of a nationwide rollout of SMK-Dagang.Net service to cover all ports, airports and border crossings including those in Sabah and Sarawak.
