Published by Bernama (Business)

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- E-Commerce Services provider, Dagang Net Technologies Sdn Bhd, has appointed TIME Quantum Technology Sdn Bhd to provide its customers with one of the world's most reliable and far-reaching nationwide network via a Data Centre facility to expedite commerce through major airports and seaports in the country.

Thursday, both companies signed an agreement which led them to collaborate in strengthening the Dagang-Net portion of the existing Sistem Maklumat Kastam (SMK)-Net nationwide network with new hardware, software, and network equipment deployment.

At the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Dagang Net Technologies Saifol Bahri Shamlan signed on behalf of his company while Azlan Tahir, Head of TIME Quantum Technology for TIME Quantum.

Dagang Net in a press release at the signing said, these electronic cargo clearing and duty payment systems linked to the Royal Malaysian Customs's SMK will be revamped over the next three years with upgrades worth RM20 million.

However, the first stage of the revamp, which is over RM11 million involves mainly the new hardware and network infrastructure.

Dagang Net, a subsidiary of TIME Engineering Bhd, has already upgraded its core Customs clearance systems to the latest form of electronic service delivery, which are running on contemporary Internet and Web-based technology platforms.
This round of investment and the move to TIME Quantum Technology facilities is to further boost service resilience and availability, targeted to attain world-class capability and realibility and to provide a level of service that is aimed to exceed customer expectations.

In the following stages of their upgrade plan, the company will improve the automation of Customs import-export documentation procedures as well as continue to introduce more value-added services, which began in late 2003.

This is being done to give their clients a competitive edge in the international trade arena and ultimately speed up international trading processes electronically.

Saifol who spoke at the signing said, the growth in international trade has forced the company to re-tool and upgrade its technology every three years or so to enable it deploy the latest state-of-the-art technology across its entire operations.

"Following 18 months of research, we have designed the next four-year blueprint and earmarked TIME Quantum Technology's new data centre facility, that is deemed to be the very best platform for an e-commerce system to support our SMK-Dagang-Net nationwide operations," he said.

He said this significant investment demonstrates Dagang Net Technologies' commitment to the customers and continued to maintain the company's global standard of service excellence.

The company is working alongside with the Royal Malaysian Customs on the final legs of a nationwide roll-out in providing the SMK-Dagang Net Service to all major and small ports, airports and border crossings including those in Sabah and Sarawak to help fulfill its vision of being the powerhouse of Malaysian e-Commerce.

It also has plans to take its homegrown capabilities out of Malaysia by collaborating with foreign partners in South Korea, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos to help set up value added networks that represent the best of its SMK-Dagang Net experience.
